Overalls done right

By: Suni McCall

People have something to say about my denim overalls every time I bust them out. Comments about them range from Wisconsin farmer jokes to rad, smile inducing compliments. Honestly, I like them because they are borderline ugly and I find a lot of joy in having fun with my wardrobe.

Overalls can be a bit tricky to pull off. Proportion is super important and my advice to you is that if you are interested in taking the overall purchase plunge please take a little time to try a few on. They are surprisingly sexy.   These in particular are from Free People and were reasonably priced.

As always, it’s all about the details and since I wore these to work I needed to pull my look together. I decided that it would be perfect with a feminine blazer.   I’ll wear motorcycle boots with pretty much anything and today was no exception.  Sealing my style deal today I slightly rolled the cuffs to incorporate effortlessness, which is just a well-practiced daily detail. In regards to accessories, jewelry is always a little more personal for me. I almost always wear something that was given to me or something I have determined as my new found treasure which currently is a necklace I bought from the artist collective,Venue, in Ballard. It’s actually a piece of concrete??  Hey, I’m just trying to remain grounded here folks.

Finally I will digress and report that I do have plenty more styling plans for these bad boys.  Let me tell you that they include some heels and another low cut sassy top. So my final piece of advice to you is my first rule of personal style and that is, absolutely, always, get dressed for yourself. It’s just a small reward that pays you off in interesting conversations and a spring in your fashionably farmer step!
