The many ways to wear faux fur

If you walk into any store, you’ll see sequins, sparkles, and faux fur. The fuzzy, feel good, fluffy must-have is on every page of my Ville Magazine editorial. It’s worn as a hat, a scarf, a vest, a jacket, and all the wonderful ways you can find it designed. Our lovely model is a Russian native and had her vodka handy to help us weather through the cold and get her mood in correct form.

The setting took place on a very movie set-like farm off the freeway in Bothel, WA. It was as if everything, including the animals, were put into their perfect positions for our arrival. As the model was getting her hair and make-up all done up, I explored the farm taking selfies with the alpacas, found a group of chickens running around together, pet the horses, and found a funny watch goat that looked over the farm as if it were his very own creation. Being part of this photo shoots was quite an exciting adventure. I never know what will happen as the photographs are taken, we always need to make some last minute tweaks, it keeps me on my toes to use all my styling talents.

On this very set, I literally put together all the outfits with no plan. The editor picked up two racks of clothing from Nordstrom and showed me her inspiration photos and said, put together eight outfits using what I found. This is my creative escape, I got lost in my fashion ideas and layered, mixed textures, and kept the underlying theme cohesive; fur mixed with everything plus dressed down glam. I only had a few shoes to work with, but oh how I adored the thigh high brown suede with dark floral stitching. I wanted to make everything match those beauties but it was not as versatile as I had hoped.

The fur was perfectly paired with everything. It was paired with a every kind of winter dress you could own; a silky silver slip, long sleeve boho lace dress, sleeveless sweater dress, and even a suede tunic. Possibilities were endless and making the final cut on the outfits depended more on the backgrounds than anything else.  If you happen to find yourself lost with ways to wear your past faux fur purchases, you now have six new ideas. Go to the closet and experiment with pairing it with an outfit for this week.
