We have all been there – you are in the dressing room and you fall in love with a piece, but then you check the price tag and all of a sudden you aren’t so sure. Like in all aspects of your life, it is important to make sure that you are spending your money smartly when shopping for clothing. I help my clients do this by making a checklist of missing pieces to keep us on task while shopping and helping them find items they truly LOVE! So when we run into this situation and they trying to justify the price, I ask them 3 simple questions.
The first thing you should ask yourself is “Do you really love this item? Will you actually wear it?” This is a really important question because you may try something on and its absolutely gorgeous, but it may not be something you will actually wear. It may not fit your lifestyle and so it ends up just hanging in your closet. Pick clothes that you love that you can actually get a lot of use out of!
Next, you want to ask yourself, “How much do you love it?” Because if you really love it you will find ways to wear it. It can be tricky for some clients to commit to something unique or bold because they can only imagine wearing it one way. But if you truly love a piece, challenge yourself to find new ways to wear it.
Finally, you have to ask yourself, “Do I already own something similar?” We all are creatures of habit whether we like to admit it or not. When I go into people’s closets I tend to see a lot of the same styles or colors. This is where the shopping list of missing pieces comes in really handy. If you already own 5 black t-shirts, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on another one. I encourage you to branch out and try new styles and colors to add to your wardrobe and create more outfit possibilities.
